The 2024 European Championships are almost upon us, with the tournament scheduled to start on Saturday, June 15, in the early hours of the morning in the Philippines when hosts Germany face Scotland in Group A.
The Euros are without a doubt the biggest international football competition in Europe, consisting of some of the best teams from the continent and featuring the biggest stars in the world. As usual, there are some players who have performed better than the others in the competition. Here, we take a look at the all-time highest scorers.
It comes as no surprise that Portugal icon and five-time Ballon d’Or award winner Cristiano Ronaldo tops the goal scoring charts in European Championship history. The 39-year-old made his Euro debut in 2004 for his country, leading them to the finals where they fell at the final hurdle to Greece.

Ronaldo has scored a staggering 14 goals in Euro history and is the reigning Golden Boot winner having won the award in the 2020 edition, where he scored five goals and contributed one assist.
He is followed by France legend Michel Platini, who scored 14 goals in just five games in the 1984 edition on home soil. Such was his impact that Platini’s performances gave France their first major title in international football.
Three players are tied in third place with seven goals each to their name: Madsen, Antoine Griezmann, and Alan Shearer. While not much is known about Madsen, both Griezmann and Shearer are legends for France and England, respectively.
In fact, both Griezmann and Shearer have won the Golden Boot award once so far, in 2016 and 1996, respectively. However, it seems likely that Ronaldo will extend his goal-scoring lead, considering he has double the number of goals compared to his nearest competitor, Griezmann.
