The Filipino athletes from the Philippines who competed for their country at the 2024 Olympic Games, recently concluded in Paris, France, will receive a hero's welcome. On Monday, August 12, the Office of the Presidential Protocol announced that the heroes' parade for returning filipino athletes will take place on Wednesday, August 14.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines will pay tribute to the athletes who have returned from the Olympic Games. The President will present a Presidential Medal of Merit to Carlos Yulo, who has won two gold medals in the Olympic Games. The other filipino athletes who participated in the Paris Summer Games will also receive presidential citations.
"They want it to be a heroes' welcome, and it is very much focused on them and what they have done to honor the nation," the speaker said. I'd say that it's straightforward but profound at the same time. Every participant, including the two athletes, Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, who received bronze medals for their performances, will receive presidential citations. In a statement, Reichel Quinones, the Chief of Presidential Protocol and the Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs, announced that Carlos Yulo would receive the Presidential Medal of Merit.

In addition, the release noted that all of the Filipino athletes will arrive in Manila on a chartered flight at approximately six o'clock in the evening on Tuesday, August 13. The First Family will greet the athletes, including Yulo, in Malacanang, followed by a meal and an award ceremony.
The procession of heroes will be approximately 7.7 kilometers long and will begin at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City around three o'clock in the afternoon. The procession will traverse Roxas Boulevard, Padre Burgos Street, Finance Road, Taft Avenue, Quirino Avenue, and Adriatico Street on its way to the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, its ultimate destination.
Additionally, each and every Olympian will receive monetary incentives from the President, though the exact amounts are still unknown. This will take place in addition to the parade of heroes.
The President will announce a monetary incentive in response to the welcome honors for the Olympians. Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office, Dale de Vera, announced that the President will be making an announcement regarding the figures in the near future.
The Philippines had a remarkable performance at the Olympic Games in 2024, winning four medals throughout the course of the competition: two gold and two bronze. Carlos Yulo rewrote history by winning his second gold medal in the vault competition just twenty-four hours after winning his first gold medal, establishing himself as the greatest ever Olympian in Philippine history. He became the first Filipino to win multiple gold medals at the Olympics, and he did so at the Bercy Arena on Sunday, August 4. Boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas received bronze medals in their respective weight divisions during the competition.
As a result of their achievements, the Philippines emerged as the best Southeast Asian nation at the Olympics, finishing 37th in the overall standings.
