PVL Al-filipino All-Filipino 2019 Jovelyn Gonzaga, a veteran volleyball stand, came back to show that she is still on top of her game as she landed in PVL Press Corps Player of the Week, thanks to her splendid performance in the recent Premier Volleyball League. Gonzaga of ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles pulled off a crucial upset by guiding his team to win against the Nxled Chameleons with a set score of 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-15 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Gonzaga did not disappoint playing their best match so far with 23 points, 20 attacks in 30 attempts, and 12 digs. On the offense and defense, she provided evidence of her importance to the success of the thunderbelles.
To come out on top on the November 19 to 23 Player of the Week award, the 33-year-old opposite hitter narrowly beat stiff competition from City Skylar and local stars such as Bea de Leon of Creamline Cool Smashers, Savannah Davison of PLDT High-Speed Hitters, Gel Cayuna of Cignal HD Spikers, Brooke Van Sickle of Petro Gazz Angels, and Sisi Rondina of Choco Mu.

After learning of her award, Gonzaga was asked about the expectations placed on her since becoming a team captain. Well-reputed for performance and effective communication with other players, Gonzala was focused on the need to build others up.
“I always answer in the interview, that I have to step up because once I step up, my teammates will also gain confidence. At the same time, I have a lot of confidence in the talent and potential of everyone,” Gonzaga said.
She also credited coach Jerry Yan and the team’s dedication to improving through consistent exposure and experience.
“The team is from coach Jerry Yan. We need exposure. Experience and exposure, continuous playing until we are consistent until we have total chemistry. When it comes to training, that’s what I always say. They are hardworking, they are full of potential. So more on exposure, little by little. One step at a time, one game at a time, we will get there,” she added.
Gonzaga’s comments reflect her commitment to fostering a culture of growth and teamwork within the Thunderbelles, a mindset that has been crucial in their rise.
The win against Nxled Chameleons was the first one in the All-Filipino Conference for the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles and that placed them in seventh place with a record of 1 win – 1 loss. This group has seen gradual development over the years and Gonzaga's leadership has played a significant role in boosting the morale and interaction of the team.
The Thunderbelles are now focusing on their next match against the Galeries Tower Highrisers on Thursday, November 28 at Phil Sports Arena following the lead from Gonzaga.
The post-Gonzaga leads Thunderbelles on victory appeared first on homework. This is a vital chance to create a buzz and be recognized as a potential contenders in the highly saturated conference for ZUS Coffee.
At Gonzaga, the Player of the Week honor is another of a long line of accomplishments for the seasoned slalom racer. She has proven herself as one of the most reliable workers of team teams over the years and she has also carved a niche for herself as one of the most appealing volleyballers from the Philippines. One of the most important players and the team’s conditioner, Gonzaga is characterized by high results in the conditions of pressure.
It has also been a powered journey with extra resilience after dealing with injuries and other individual drawbacks. Nevertheless, Gonzaga’s ordeal has been inspiring young talents; she is experienced, and poised, and her recent performances are a testament to this inference.
It is not just a simple move up the ranking that speaks volumes of the Thunderbelles team. Gonzaga as a team, or the team with Gonzaga as their leader, is looking to build slowly and methodically, game after game.
The game against Galeries Tower Highrisers will be a perfect chance for Thunderbelles to show that this is no fluke they are experiencing. If Gonzaga and her teammates will bring a similar performance on the court, then they will continue to become a fearsome team in the league.
