Although Jimenez is currently an unrestricted free agent, having been released by the San Miguel Beermen, the league office has yet to grant him an official release.
Under the terms of the UPC, Jimenez’s three-year contract, originally running until December 2025, involved a tripartite agreement between the player, his team, and the league. Such agreements cannot be terminated unilaterally or with the consent of only two parties. This contractual stipulation leaves Jimenez in a precarious position, as his clearance from the league office remains unresolved.

In the PBA, players sign a contract involving three parties: the player, the team, and the league. These contracts are called "Uniform Player’s Contracts." For a player to move to another team, all three parties must agree to the release.
Reports say that while San Miguel released Jimenez, he hasn’t yet received clearance from the PBA league office. This missing approval means he’s technically still under PBA’s rules, even though he’s now with Zamboanga Valientes.
By joining the Zamboanga Valientes, Jimenez is looking at better opportunities. For example, in the week-long Dubai tournament, he is expected to earn PHP 150,000, which is much higher than his monthly salary of PHP 90,000 when he was with San Miguel.

Despite the unresolved contractual issues, Jimenez left for Dubai with the entire Zamboanga Valientes squad on Thursday, January 24. His decision to proceed with the tournament underscores his determination to advance his career, but it also places him at odds with the PBA’s regulations.
San Miguel’s management confirmed that they released Jimenez on January 20, 2024. According to the team, everything was done properly, and Jimenez even received his final paycheck. However, the problem is with the PBA’s approval process.
In a statement, San Miguel’s team manager, Gee Abanilla, explained:
"We already released him. The issue is that he doesn’t have clearance from the PBA yet. That’s why the league is pursuing him."
This means Jimenez needs to sort out his status with the PBA before playing for the Valientes in Dubai.
Kyt Jimenez was drafted 76th overall by the San Miguel Beermen in 2023 and played a big role in their championship win during the 2023/24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup. Now, as he tries to move forward with his career, his future depends on whether he gets clearance from the PBA.
