NBA insider states that the Los Angeles Lakers are eager to sign Luka Doncic in the near future
Dallas Mavericks superstar luka doncic slovenian, a popular player and is widely regarded as one of the greatest European players of all time and a future National Basketball Association (NBA) Hall of Famer. Doncic once again proved why he should be considered as arguably the best player in the league at present, as evidenced by his performances in the recently concluded 2023/24 NBA Finals.
While Dallas was comprehensively routed by the Boston Celtics in the NBA finals, Doncic was the sole player from his team who impressed and gave it his all on the court, despite dealing with multiple injury and health issues. Doncic is coming off an incredible 2023/24 NBA season where he averaged 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from the three-point range in 70 appearances.
The 25-year-old is on the wishlist of almost every top NBA team should he become available in the near future. NBA insider and the Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor recently revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers are eager to land the Slovenian star.
“I have reported on this podcast and on the Ringer how they have their sights set for Luka Doncic in the future. We will see if that works out. The Dallas Mavericks just made the Finals. Dallas is looking better than ever with their supporting cast. That may not work out, but the Lakers, by not trading their future picks, clearly they are still thinking long-term at this point. They are not going all in like you might expect many teams to do with LeBron James,” O’Connor stated.

Luka Doncic Slovenia recently joined an illustrious NBA list, ranking alongside Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan as one of the top four players to score the most points ever in their first 50 playoff games. Doncic finished with 1,546 points in his first 50 playoff games, ranking only behind three players on the list. The only three players who scored more than Doncic in their first 50 playoff games were Michael Jordan (1,814), Elgin Baylor (1,675), and Wilt Chamberlain (1,647).
In the Slovenian’s first 50 nba playoffs 2024 games, he has averaged 30.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game. There remains no doubt that offensively, Doncic is arguably the best player in the league. However, his defensive abilities are where challenges lie.
It will be intriguing to see how Lakers’ interest in Doncic pans out in the future, considering that the Mavericks’ front office is unlikely to part with their best player. If a move does have to happen, it will likely be Doncic who needs to decide to leave the franchise and request a trade.
