Who Will Win Wimbledon 2024?
June 6, 2024

The Championships, commonly known as the Wimbledon 2024, will stage its 137th edition of the Gentlemen's Singles Championships this July 1. It will also be the 130th staging of the Ladies' Singles Championship and the 56th in the Open Era.  This edition would intrigue fans, as the 2024 Olympics will be held twelve days after the men's finals. Roland Garros is the venue, so transitioning from clay to grass and back to clay can be a make-or-break thing. Local fans would want to know Alex Eala's chances.

Eala was a top junior player, winning the junior singles title at the 2022 US Open. (Eala and Indonesia's Priska Madelyn Nugroho won the girls' doubles title at the 2020 Australian Open. Eala, the top-ranked Filipino tennis player, teamed up with Russian Okasana Selekhmeteva at the 2021 French Open. They won the girls' doubles crown.) Eala didn't succeed much at the All England Club Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, as she didn't progress beyond the second round. And this might be the case this year. (It remains to be seen if the organizers will let her enter the week-long qualifying competition. You can visit OKBet Sports - the leading platform to get tennis betting trends and news.) Fans can look forward to next year.

Wimbledon 2023 saw Carlos Alcaraz winning his second Grand Slam title, defeating 7-time winner Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller. Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic, the 2019 runner-up at Roland Garros, won her maiden Grand Slam title (at the expense of Ons Jabeur of Tunisia). Will Alcaraz and Vondrousova defend their respective titles successfully? Their chances are slim.

Here are our fearless predictions on Wimbledon 2024:

Men's singles

Who will win? Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner was almost unbeatable during the first quarter of 2024. Many (tennis) experts predicted that he wouldn't fare better in the dirt, but Italy's top-ranked player proved them wrong. Sinner, who reached the semifinals of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, would do better this year. Don't be surprised if he raises the silver gilt cup on July 15, as he's head and shoulders above everyone in the faster courts (this season).

Who should win? Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini reached the finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, his best result to date. COVID-19 and injuries followed. It was a slow recovery, but his fans were delighted when he won his 8th singles title in Casablanca last April. Berrettini had tremendous success in grass, and Sinner's dominance could motivate him to do better (and be a title contender again).

Who is the dark horse? Hubert Hurkacz

Before the 2024 season, Hubert Hurkacz never progressed beyond the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament. He reached the last eight of the 2024 Australian Open and the fourth round of the 2024 French Open so he could duplicate his semifinal stint at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The Polish player is dangerous on faster courts, and not a few believe he would win his first major title at the All England Club Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Other players to watch out for:

Carlos Alcaraz. The former number-one player could've been the favorite this year, but his arm injury left some wondering about his chances in Wimbledon (and the rest of the season). Expect him to progress to the quarterfinals, if not the semifinals.

Holge Rune.  Many tennis fans see Carlos Alcaraz, Holge Rune, and Jannik Sinner as the next Big Three in the ATP tour. When will Holdge Rune raise his first major trophy? Not this season. Expect him to make it to the tournament's second week, though.

Cameron Norrie. The top-ranked British player reached the semifinals of the 2022 Wimbledon. He may have lost in the second round last year, but it doesn't discount the possibility of Norrie reaching the last four again.

(Many would wonder why Novak Djokovic isn't favored this season.  The Serb's form could be better during the Olympic year.

Women's singles

Who will win? Ons Jabeur

Ons Jabeur is a two-time All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club runner-up. Her game is best suited in grass, but her best form deserted her in the finals. It might be a case of nerves, but experience could help the Tunisian player do better. She can make a breakthrough this season.

Who should win? Iga Swiatek

You can't touch Iga Swiatek on clay. (Chris Evert won 7 French Open titles, the most by a female player. Iga Swiatek will surpass that record long before she hangs up her tennis racket.) 2022 is Swiatek's best season, which saw her winning the Sunshine Doubles and the US Open. Her winning Wimbledon is a matter of when. The luck of the draw might play a part.

Who is the dark horse? Madison Keys

Madison Keys, the 2017 US Open runner-up, has what it takes to be the best player in the WTA tour. But consistency is an issue. The results looked promising when Bjorn Fratangelo became her full-time coach last year. (She won a WTA 250 tournament in Strasbourg. Her game doesn't suit the red clay.) The American reached the last eight at Wimbledon the previous year. She might progress to the next round this year.

Other players to watch out for:

Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarussian's all-around game should make her one of the active players who can achieve a career Grand Slam in the immediate future. A few points didn't go her way, which cost her some titles. It can change this season.

Elena Rybakina. The 2022 Wimbledon champion isn't a one-slam wonder. Don't be surprised if she hoists the Venus Rosewater Dish many times, as she seems to be at home in the grass (like Martina Navratilova).

Mira Andreeva. Russian Mira Andreeva is the newest teenage sensation in the WTA Tour. Some tennis experts were reminded of Maria Sharapova, and the comparison doesn't seem remote. (Andreeva has a BIG game that could make her a title contender this year, if not next year.)

Men's doubles

Who will win? Rohann Bopanna and Matt Ebden

Hardcore tennis fans would prefer the entertainment value men's doubles would bring, and Rohann Bopanna and Matt Ebden should have teamed up earlier. (If they did, they would have won several major titles.) The Aussie-Indian pair were the winners of the Australian Open earlier this year. They are more consistent than the other teams (in the tour).

Who should win? Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic

Wesley Koolhof fulfilled his dream of winning the Wimbledon's doubles title last year. 2024 would be his last year. Koolhof and Nikola Mektic, who won the 2020 ATP Finals, are among the teams to watch out for. (The Dutch-Croatian duo won the Indian Wells Masters  early this year.)

Women's doubles

Who will win? Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens

Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens won the 2021 Wimbledon women's doubles title, and they are the heavy favorites to win this year's (oldest) tournament. They also won the Australian Open earlier this year. Most of their closest competitors switched partners. It's a shame that the Belgian-Taiwanese duo can't play together in the Paris Olympics.

Who should win? Coco Gauff and Katerina Siniakova

Coco Gauff and Katerina Siniakova have past doubles success, but they played with different partners. This new tandem looks too good on paper. Making it to the second week isn't a question.
